Dr. Darcy James is a born and raised Vancouver Islander and the newest chiropractor to
join the Optimal team. He obtained his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Canadian
Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, having previously completed his Bachelor of
Science Degree at Vancouver Island University with a major in Microbiology. He
attended elementary and high school here in Nanaimo, graduating from Dover Bay
Secondary in 2005.
Darcy has always had a keen interest in working with others. Previous to his schooling in
Toronto, Darcy spent over 10-years with the city of Nanaimo in their Parks and
Recreation department, teaching skating lessons, leading summer camps and instructing
introductory and advanced hockey and fitness classes for both adults and children.
In addition to his work with the community, Darcy spent 5 years actively competing as a
professional mixed martial artist. It was his time in this profession that he learned the
value of healthy training habits, proper recovery and rehabilitation strategies and above
all the management of injuries while maintaining a busy training and schooling
Dr. James loves to play sports and maintain an active lifestyle. His hobbies include hockey, mixed martial arts, general fitness and exploring the outdoors. You might spot
him teaching fitness classes at the Optimal Performance Centre, and he is open and eager to discuss anything health and fitness related. His biggest interest is in human
movement. His mission is to facilitate the recovery and rehabilitation of his patients so they too can overcome their obstacles and achieve their health goals.
Dr. James uses a combination of soft tissue therapy, diversified chiropractic techniques, movement screening, rehabilitative exercise prescription and custom orthotics
prescription to help his patients get over their aches and pains and back pursuing their hobbies and interests.
Dr. James provides chiropractic treatment at our Dufferin clinic location. He also instructs fitness classes and offers personal training sessions at our Performance Centre.
